There's a lot happening in the skincare and beauty industry that isn’t getting enough attention, especially when it comes to Black and Brown kids.
Here’s what people aren’t talking about enough:
💡 1. The Erasure of Melanated Youth in Skincare
Big brands still don’t formulate with Black and Brown children in mind. Most “gentle” or “sensitive skin” labels aren’t tested on melanated skin — so we see reactions, discoloration, and long-term issues go ignored.
💸 2. Corporate Bullying of Indie Brands
Major cosmetic companies are quietly targeting small Black-owned brands through trademark challenges and legal intimidation — not because of real confusion, but to maintain power and shelf space. It’s about control, not protection.
📉 3. Lack of Clean Products for Children
We talk about clean beauty for adults, but there’s almost no conversation around the toxic ingredients being marketed to kids — especially children of color. Kids deserve safe, age-appropriate products too.
🧼 4. Self-Care Isn’t a Luxury — It’s a Life Skill
There’s a gap in messaging: we teach our children how to brush their teeth and tie their shoes, but not how to care for their skin. Especially Black boys — who are rarely included in these conversations. Skincare is part of mental health, hygiene, and confidence.
💚 5. Skincare as a Gateway to Ownership
Skincare is one of the fastest-growing beauty segments — but Black and Brown communities are underrepresented on the ownership side. We’re changing that by creating brands that speak to our kids and build generational wealth.
